Love the new microwave. I was concerned about the venting upon reading about problems stated in other reviews. However I choose this product based on past experience with Whirlpool products and was not dispointed. The blower was easy to turn for top venting and unit installation was a breese. Instructions were right on for brackets, mounting and venting. The lighting could be better but with our kitchen lighting, the front burners recieve good lighting and the back burners are illuminated suffiently by the microwave. Food is cooked evenly and throughly in the unit. It even cooks faster than our countertop microvave, made by another manfacter, which has 300 watts more power. Good looking and solidly built. Venting is suffient even for the front burners as these vapors are drawn in through the top of the unit as they rise up past the front. Based on past experience with Whirlpool products I expect years of reliable use from this product....

We shopped in San Diego for two weeks for a new over-the-range. Our price range was $200 - $300. I wanted a unit that was easy to install and a door that was not hard to open or close. This unit gave me both features. The metal template that Whirlpool provides for marking the wall was perfect. The template is also the bracket so after you've marked the holes and drilled them, you use the template as your mounting bracket. Cool idea. Be careful when drilling into the wall especially if you have drain pipes, water pipes, or electrical cables in the wall. Get the tools that are recommended. The stud finder can always be used in the future for other jobs around the house. The hole saw will prevent damage to anything behind the drywall.
The door opens and closes very easily. The latches are straight instead of angled. Nice design. The door feels solid.
Turning the blower assembly around for roof ventilation was very easy, too. The two recessed screws were clearly marked. Remove them, turn the......

Do not purchase this unit if you actually want to vent out any steam/smoke from the stove's cooking surface. Unit has little or no suction and what little there is is in the back left corner only. Right side vent will not hold a tissue or redirect a candle flame. Upon contacting Whirlpool I was advised that the installation was probably incorrect. Since the installation was quite simple, I had a Sears repairman check the unit while it was under warranty. I was told it was working "as well as it can". Glad I didn't throw away my old range hood....

This unit can NOT be modified for venting to the outside through the top. The pictures in the instructions don't match up to the reality of the product. To turn the blowers on this unit would require disassembling the entire case. It looks like the manufacturers modified the case design without regard to the instructions.
VERY unhappy with this circumstance as we would have purchased a different model if we had known the limitations of this unit....

Easy to install and easy to set up for an outside vent.*
Very very quiet.
Heats very fast, my 8 oz tea mug takes only 2 minutes to heat. 30 seconds faster than our old oven.
Rigid hinges and a solid door gives the oven a high quality feel.
My wife loves the very large interior which lets you cook on two levels.
I have only one negative remark relating to the light over the stove top; it could provide better light on the left side (they designed it with only one light bulb)
The Installation Instructions are easy to follow. The User Manual is not impressive.
* Another reviewer (Poppy34 from Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey) wrote that it can not be set up for outside vent. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The screws are conceiled in two recessed holes (as indicated in the manual) on the back of the oven. It takes less than a minute....

So far it's been easy to operate and does a nice job. I defrosted boneless chicken which was not packaged as equal portions, & it came out perfect. The installation instructions for outside venting could have been much better, but, we were able to manage with a few glitches. I would have appreciated at least a small cookbook to become familiar with all the features. I am very disappointed with the light over the stove, as it mostly beams light on one area & the rest of the stovetop is fairly dark. I called customer service & they said there aren't other options for for bulbs that would cast a broader light....

The microwave itself is a very nice and attractive, as microwaves go. So far it has peformed very well and we are satisfied with it. The main problem we do have with it is it cannot be made to vent heat/fumes outside, only inside. All the necessaery equipment is enclosed to put a vent through the wall for an external vent However the blowers, even following the enclosed instructions as to how to turn the vent blowers are wrong. The installers tried following the instruction exactly as stated but to no avail. Their comment was this is the only model that the vent blowers cannot be turned. We are now stuck with a microwave we were told by the salesman could easily be modified to vent to the outside but this is false. The installers said the only way you might be able to vent this unit outside is to disasemble it, turn the blowers and reassemble the unit. Obviously they would not do it. They said they are not allowed to perform such a task as that by Sears....

This unit was by far the most attractive, sturdy and feature rich of those in my price range. Installation was pretty easy and the unit is very easy to operate. One of my biggest criteria for deciding on a product purchase is the feel of the material. This microwave is built with quality materials and it is assembled very well. Nothing feels flimsy on this unit. I could not be happier with this purchase....
