Our old system was chain driver and noisy. Not to mention that when it closed the door it almost "slammed" it down. Wanting something quieter (since the garage sits under a bedroom) we decided to evaluate belt driven units and came across this unit from Sears. We gave it a shot and couldn't be more happier!<p> First, let me say that when I mean quiet I'm talking about Q...U...I...E...T. Compared to our old opener this is like night and day. It has a very smooth operation that will gently open and lower the door. I like the fact that as the door is nearing the end of its travel that it slows down automatically so you don't have this "slamming" effect. No doubt this is saving a tremendous amount of wear and tear on the garage door.</p><p> The battery backup is also very handy for those times when the power goes out (especially during storms)....</p>...
