Get rid of the vending/bubble gum machines, they just detract from anything that can be to done to improve the stores, getting rid of them will get closer you
to giving stores a new look. Clean up the front end of the store and keep merchandise where it belongs. Also Alot of people think the bathrooms are disgusting..simple measure here, clean, clean, paint, clean, replace. Keep the free magazine/publications racks out of the front of the store ( or entire store for that matter), they just add to the dirty feel of the store and cause problems and become an
eye sore.

Some Depts may need to be dropped or shrunk as well as some of the lines. You also should decide what "star lines" are worth it, Martha Stewart is all over, macys, walmart etc
why bother, you license her name , so offer the products with another designer name, same quality, no license fees...."K Design" ...more quality for great prices.

I keep seeing the issues of floors, paint, overall look feel of the stores...look at Target
they don't have bubble gum mcahins or free pub stands taking up space and making a mess...start here, fix the floors, new displays...the stoe within store concept is a great idea and has be brought up on these boards, that and the open isle concept.
Times are tough and thrift is paramount for businesses too, but change is needed,
small changes can bring big rewards...

Some store seem to have signature colors.....Red to me means T-----, Orange means H---D----, Blue can be L---- or W--M---.........so how about jazzing up the place with some great color scheme such as Black & Yellow or Yellow with Black undertones?....this is fun actually.....I don't think it would turn people 360 altogether if you dont have other vital factors in place but I bet you would at least get a 180 turn...

Great suggestions!  (I'm not a fan of the upfront vending either, but I suppose it does sort of have a nostaglic quality).  Just wanted to let you know that I've forwarded these posts on to the people responsibile for vending and for facilities.

I won't justify your post with a rant. But thanks for the job offer I wouldn't want to take your position.

Naa... I worked at one store where the Manager On Duty had that fantastic responsibility.

Q: How do you stop the grafitti on the bathroom mirrors?

A: Remove all the mirrors!

True story.

The bubble-gum machines at our full-line, mall, store are "out to the mall", right next to the Kiddie rides, on the way to the Star Bucks coffee location (rocket fuel of productivity).

The store DOES have a big bright orange Lotto machine, though.

It's brand-new look'n and actually ATTRACTS Customers into the store.

Boo-yaa!
