haha well said. also, there were lots of people talking about the great moderation (academics, bernanke) in 2004-6, as well as euphoric about the values to be had in the economy of the 21st century. well played.

There isn't a number high enough to count all the doomsday predictions over the last 5000 years.

its not necessarily a doomsday prediction because there is nothing that says the world will end, but speculation as to why the Myan calendar ends on 2012 is one that should be taken seriously they only are the civilization that came up with basically every form of time measurements on the current world scale. Sometimes when smart people talk, someone should listen.

There are also numerous other astronamical events that are set to occur in the same year. Coinencidents of such rare proportions don't happen often.

from what i read the myan calendar could keep getting adjusted and calculation on forever in theory. the "current" one was good for 500 some odd years and only "ends" becuse the myans ended

My theory is... When the world ends, it ends. We can't prevent it and it will happen when it's supposed to happen. Why worry about it? Should just give us a better reason to enjoy what and who we have while it lasts!

Which is why I said no one ever said that it automatically means doomsday, end of the world scenario. I think something that will go down in history for the world to remember will happen in 2012. I do not believe the world is doomed, unless we happen to doom ourselves by then.

The main celestial event that will occur at that time is the solar system crossing the elliptical plane of the galaxy.

This basically means we will be crossing from top to bottom, or bottom to top, depending on the point of view.

The other hyopothesis is that this is the calculated time that a companion "brown dwarf" to the sun will return like a comet to pass through the solar system.  A brown dwarf would be larger than Jupiter, but not quite large enough to go critical and begin a fusion reaction.

Now this is an interesting topic thousands of profits, psycics, religious tenents, cultists, even scientists are pointing their finger at the year 2012. Not that i belive anyone of them but i can see why their would be so many belivers world wide. Take you pick of world enders Nostradamus, the Hobi Profecies, Edgar Cayce, Chilam Balam, Michael D. Coe, The Book of Revelations, all of these depending on whos interpitation your listening to have procieved the end of our world in 2012 I dont put much stock into those but i will say there is a whole ton of astrological happenings set to happen in 2012 that might at the very least make you wonder :P Jan. 31st 2012 the second largest near earth object on record will pass earth 433 Eros as its named June on 2012 marks the transit of Venus solstice and the Jupiter in opposition Dec 23 the mayan long calander ends its first era dont remember the date NASA said that the 11 year cycle of the solar maximum reaches its strongest time but they did say in 2012 again i cant remember the date but the black hole allignment happens in 2012 the Geomagnetic reversal is supposed to start in 2012 (thats the monster solar flare therory) ohh and interesting thing to think on :) theres 5 eclipses marked for 2012 well all that given i can see why that year would be a picked year by many as the appocolypse

As long as we are talking Apocalyptical dates, let's consider May 24, 1844. This is the date in the Book of Daniel for the coming of the New Kingdom. Numerous religions trace their origin to that very day, the Mormons, Jehovahs Witnessses, Adventists and Bahai's all were founded on that date. May 24, 1844 is also immortalized by the famous quote, "What hath G*d Wrought?", the day Samuel Morse transmitted a decipherable signal across a wire, the birth of the internet. Now that's a Kingdom.

Too much B.S., and not enough Science.

I've seen, well, let's just say things most people don't believe in since I was a small child.

And, that's still my opinion...
