Inappropriate?
THis is from a former retail/manager/shoes sales/merchandiser... Kmart needs to push brands, they now own ( corporate sears) the shoes brands they only just sold through footstar (which tanked). Sell it baby Thom Mcan has great name appeal and older folks love ez strider ( EZ Strider has a great potential to have a younger line, same basic retro comfy jogger with better style and colors some with laces). Ape yes ape the clear isle concept from target and kohls, reduce the sporting goods dept (look at targets small but convenient), put new flooring!!, clean/paint the bathrooms!! and get rid of layaway - this is the age of credit cards. More and better private labeling or purchase some private label/store brands and bring them into the stores. Improve the basic editions line which tends to be the poorest quality clothes line in store ( lots of shrinkage) co-brand like target and costco (walmart just brought back Op/oceans pacific clothing line). Finally, train your employess, impose a strict
politness policy, update your distribution or take in in house...this is the time to make the move, the economy is screaming and people want to save but do so in a
nice, clean, friendly, stylish well stocked chain of stores. Zig away from walmart and zag parallell to target. and check out the different concepts available like steve and barrys are doing....get going. Oh another thing "K" - K-brand thats a good inhouse name beside american fare which isn't catchy at all. Theres much that can be done and kmart is better poised than sears to do so as a store brand even thought they are the same company thier identities are not the same. Retail Man - I am here to help!
