I made a comment the otherday about sharing an exclusive sneak peek at some new technology we are working on at Sears to help make finding deals even easier.  I would like to unveil a new deals experience to you first!  Please take a look at our new program here:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/dap_10153_12605_DAP_sears+circular?origin=prod

There is a feedback form on the program, but it's being fixed right now, so please let us know any comments you might have here, we'd love to hear them!

And thanks for being a part of our community!

Daniel

Great!

Little blue balls moving around the Sears logo... right?

In Flash, no-less.

Okay I gave this a look and I have to say it is interesting thus far. Perhaps this could find use in more areas of the site, and not a stand-alone application that has to be found.

A quick note - I looked at the sony cybershot and I wanted to see the back, and other views which did not show up. There is no link to the product page and that could be a handy feature. Or just include other views. Again, size does matter, and these tiny embedded frames can only include so much before it becomes unusable and cluttered. Please consider the experience which can change markedly when someone is immersed in the activity and not just looking at an afterthought.

What I am hinting at was to include a full screen or larger view button. I'd be interested in using a full screen, quality display shopping experience.

That is pretty neat-to be able to customize your own deals.  Being able to hone in on exactly what kind of sales items you are looking for is a real time saver, and an innovative option.

Thans for the feedback!  This is the first of several versions with new features being considered and desgined.  As far as it being a stand alone application it will be linked into the main site soon enough.  Again this is an exclusive just for you!

Keep up the great feedback, ask questions, etc.

When do you suppose this will make its way on to the main site for general use?

This is, upon second look, a pretty new way to shop online. What other sites besides Amazon are people using to shop for products? I use ebay mostly but tend to not enjoy their website. This new thing has promise, when considering the alternatives.

We will continue to work with our community for the next week or so, and then our email community and then finally it will be part of the standard flow.  A lot of man hours have gone into this, it's definately a new way to find deals, think of it as every advertisment that comes into your news paper online with enhancements based on what you've shopped for in the past, what you've given a thumbs up to in the online deals and we throw in online sales items to make sure you can find what you are looking for when you are looking for it.

No AJAX, 100% flash based experience, that swirl is a pre-loader

I like it! Looks great. Also, I love that once you start searching, down at the bottom it displays the "Movers & Shakers" in that category...hilarious!

it is cool, I am glad it seems to be a positive thing so far. I would like to have alternative product images though, or a link to the page itself.

*Noted

We are prioritizing tweaks and enhancements based on previous internal commitments and based on the feedback we get from our community.

Also I'm glad people like the movers and shakers, that is another product that I'm in charge of for Sears and Kmart.  Makes me love to come here more and more :)

Oh!

I almost forgot...

"I" can see the Flash 10 display page at home.

Be ADVISED that not all "stores", including the one I work at, have Flash 10 PLAYERS installed on their Server.

I don't know why.

But, if this little "detail" is not taken into account, a lot of development effort will NOT be seen in atleast some of the stores.

This has already happened with the evolv tool presentation site (Flash 10).

Thanks Adam!  It's a flash 9 app, but that doesn't take away that I need to talk to Ops about this.  I'll check into it today.

If you are logged into Sears or Kmart you will see that in the upper header you have a link to "Recommendations" they are based on previous products you've viewed, searches you done. We work hard to help our customers find items they might be interested in.  We would like to users find what they want as quickly as possible

... *sigh* ... I'm using Firefox on a linux computer (Ubuntu) and so far haven't had many problems viewing the Sear sites -- but the heavy use of "Flash" doesn't sit well with all geeks. And hey, this geek has spent a fair amount of money at Sears. Shame if I couldn't view the site anymore...

Still just got the little blue balls run'n wildly around the Sears logo.

Kind of reminds me of doing stock checks in the back or waiting for the store server to "serve up" a web page.

Hey!

Could that Flash graphic be repurposed into a GIF, for use on all the store servers?

That would be "entertaining", while waiting for the store server to DO SOMETHING!

I found the Corel "hour-glass" animated icon fun to watch, also.

Flash 9?

The store has a "shot", then!

I too am a "Geek" used to develop software for ICBM's, but unfortunately in order to make this experience we had to use flash.  However, there are things being worked on internally that may help with your pains.  Stay tuned!

We could not redo it as GIF too many dynamic moving parts. Are you having this issue on the intranet or are you coming from outside the sears network?  I ask because I have issues once and a while going inside to the experience

We are going to be doing some more tweaks, please keep an eye on it and let us know if anything breaks, or needs enhancement.

Have a great labor day!
