LockedExecuting in Business

We're doing some new things in Sears Hometown Stores and we'd like to share it with you. What do you think (I can only imagine the responses). It's on MySears > blog > Hometown Stores and no link this time. :)

You're going to start executing people?

Is this soley based on performance "metrics", or will other factors be included?

I think personal appearance and hygiene are going to factor in. Don't come in here lookin' like a scrub! Take a shower! Brush your hair! Brush your teeth! Tie your shoes!

Remember when people took pride in how they looked

Yeah I know for me when I visit some of the other stores their look reminds me of a used car salesman. Black jeans, cheap looking shoes, and that same old polo. I thought we were supposed to represent ourselves in a real classy way like top shelf alcohol just begging you to buy buy buy!

Wait, you can afford better clothes than that?

It took me four months to save up for my black leather Doc Marten's.

What I like when I go shopping with the misses is to see a bunch of bright faces running about Hahaha, reminds me of when I was a kid gets me all excited :)

Fashions change so often looking "nice" can hardly be qualified anymore.

My favourite fashion was when all the kids were wearing big hats haha I used to get a kick out of that

I think presentation is part of the business execution. But I think somethings works and somethings don't and it's a process of continuous improvement.

@AdamO Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach, Rich McKay, famously replied to a question about his winless team's execution and he said he was in favor of it. :)

We were told to dress informally (no ties), to give the stores a more comfortable, lower pressure atmosphere for the Customers.

Ok...

No ties...

Good.

Collared shirts...

Check.

Polishable black shoes...

Got a pair.

No one specifies "tied" shoe laces.

But, that's just common sense.

@AdamO you could wear penny loafers, no laces required. :)

When it comes to personal dress-there is a SHC dress code policy.

A business casual dress on the sales floor in most cases is appropriate.

You could put those folks that dont adhere to policy in smocks-reminds me of the t-Shirt / Jeans look @  Wal-Mart.

In these times- public middle school and high school students dress pretty much they way they want ( yes there are rules) but this type of dress allowed they then are conditioned to know not much better when in the business retail world. They resist a dress code.

You all should expereince and interview prospective employees- its really disturbing- they dont make any points for their getting hired.when they should be projecting the best possible appearance and attitude possible-most are quite questionable, Hmm wearing dark shaded sunglasses in an interview , indoors & at night - yikes, its sad.

Nothing is a big turn off is to see a sloppy employee with shirt out, unkept appearance, questionable personal hygiene, etc etc there is not reprisal for fear of the merchant being taken to court for discrimination, etc etc.

I'll LOOK for Penny Loafers at the store!

I'll slice up a couple'a 1/4 inch ratchet drive gear to fit in them shoe slots on top.

I hope they're made in "wide" sizes.

Comfortable black khakis from The Gap.

Blue "Sears" polo shirt from Land's End, with monogrammed Sears logo.

Black leather Doc Marten's with oil, fat, acid, petrol, alkali resistant soles, which have similar tread to a workboot.

Your "Sears Appliance Specialist" badge around your neck.  Just remember to remove it to prevent being hung, or it interfering while performing some tasks.

Nice belt and dress socks to finish the package, and you look like a solid "Blue Crew" member.
