LockedHelp me Help Kmart

posted on June 18, 2008 at 07:45PM Inappropriate?
I work for a local Big Kmart in Northeast Pennsylvania.  I love my job, and I take pride in it.  I'm asking everyone here, what can I do or share with other team members that will help improve your shopping experience at a kmart?  Even if you are one the other side of the country, I still want to hear your opinion because it seems all kmarts share the same problems.  I will be printing your posts out, and sharing them with our team members to hopefully improve the shopping experience.  Thanks!

Thanks for asking! Most people I know (including myself) like to shop in stores that feel comfortable, are visually welcoming, offer a variety of products/brands at reasonable prices or have good sales and make shopping a fun experience. I'd like to see my local Kmarts look a tiny bit more updated, even though they're clean and organized.

When hand-dryer is out of order provide towels to dry hands. When people are shopping and using the fitting room have salesperson stay in that area for questions and help

Somebody has got to talk to the clothing buyers for the K-Mart stores in my area (WV, KY, OH).  I stopped in a couple of weeks ago to buy some items before I went on vacation and ended up walking out with one pair of capri pants.  The vast majority of the clothing in the ladies department was outdated and unattractive.  There were a few things I was interested in, but the majority of the clothing was a decade out of style - the plus size department was even worse.

I don't really understand this, because Sears always has beautiful, fashionable clothing and it would seem that the buyers would purchase for both.  Maybe not??  But they need to.

Also, the stores need a bit of updating to stay competitive.  All of the stores in my area have looked pretty much the same since I was a kid and that's been about 25 years ago.  They are always neat and clean but just not very visually appealing.

One last thing -- it is alway too hot in my local stores.  When you mention this to a clerk, they say that the climate is controlled somewhere else, and I think they are probably as miserable working in there as people are shopping in there.  If the air temperature is uncomfortable, people are not going to browse.  I know I won't stay for more than 15 minutes in the store during the summer.

Thanks for listening.

I agree with the clothing comment for the ladies clothes. Most of them are ugly and outdated. Even if you are a size 20 you do like to find attractive clothing. I am 48 years old and dont want teen clothes but I dont want old lady clothes either. I personally think that Sears could make some better choices as far as ladies go also. I want to see K-Mart do better and be more competion for Wal-Mart. They need it.

Do other areas have K-Mart super centers? Is there such a thing....

I was not happy with my last K-Mart experience because a t-shirt I bought on sale rung up wrong and I didnt notice until I got home. I am going to try and shop there more often. But I hate returns...

I think we could help a lot by telling them what we want to see stocked in the store. Things that we regurally buy. I would like to see halfnhalf there. I buy it every week!!

Hope this helps!

I totally agree that Wal-mart needs better competition.  I personally do NOT shop at Wal-mart for anything.

My biggest complaint about K-mart is the outdated, inclosed feeling it has when I walk in the store.

The amount of items they carry could be downsized to become more like a Walgreens b/c most of what they carry in the clothing lines are poor quality for the price.  Their best items are way in the back, like small appliances and office supplies, inexpensive furniture.  Why jewelry and bathroom things are in front is beyond me.  Who walks in a store and immediately wants a new bathroom rug?

I agree about the outdated enclosed feeling of the atmosphere of the store.  I like the Kmart close to me because there is never a long line and its not ever crowded.

I would like to see a better selection of kids clothes at better prices.  We were headed to the beach and at the last minute, i needed to get 4-5 t-shirts and a pair of pajamas.  There was no selection to choose from and the cheapest t-shirt was 8.00.  I dont like to spend that much on a 5 year olds t-shirts!  Walmart had them for 1/2 that but i didn't want to drive that far when Kmart is just around the corner and didn't have much time.
