How can sk-YOU better acknowledge and recognize community members for ideas

I read through a few postings this afternoon that conveyed a disappointment from the community that not all of the ideas they share here are acknolwedged and that they never know what happened with their suggestion.

As a employee for the company I have often submitted ideas through internal channels.

I understand that recognizing me for an idea is not always feasible and may even be impossible in today's litigious society ("Hey, I totally had that idea first!"  No way man, I so sent that to corporate in 2005!).  However, I do appreciate when I receive acknowledgement that my idea was heard, forwarded on, and acted upon.

As a community member, what can the community manager's and moderator's on sk-YOU do to make you feel heard?

It's true that not every idea that we hear from the community can be promptly acted upon with visible results to convey back to the community. I regularly dig deep into the forum posts, read through our customers' comments, find the right person to rectify the issues (which is not an easy task in itself!) and report back in the forums.

It's obvious that one person can't take on this whole challenge which is why the business units are actively involved in understanding what our customers tell us. Our business units' input is sometimes heard directly in the forums, and most times it's heard behind the scenes in their planning meetings.

Some changes do take time and I ask that on issues including customer service in the stores, that our community is patient with us. The more we know about what's happening at the store level, the more clearly we can understand how to fix the problems. When we hear about your great experiences with our associates or maybe you found the perfect merchandise at the right price, we'd like to know about that too!

This is why we've been promoting local store reviews in the forums and with a $250 sweepstakes offer this month. Get your reviews in before 10/30 to enter!

Our recent upgrade on this site now makes it possible for anyone in the business to get reviews of any category directly by email. So keep those store reviews coming! There's much more planned for this site and I/we hope that our members continue to help us!

I don't understand why anyone providing input here expects to be rewarded or recognized. Maybe I'm strange, but I'm here giving input with hope that it's actually having a positive impact somewhere. I'm not in it for the gain or glory. I actually want to see Kmart regain some of it's former stature.

On the other hand, does SHC have any kind of reward-based suggestion program that it's employees can participate in?

The old Kmart use to have a suggestion system and may have one now. The system was done away with due to so many duplication of ideas and that the buyers etc had to decide if it was worth $25 to an upward amount. The system worked as I think I had roughly 75  plus suggestion that were put into use as well as 5 or so top nother awards. Suggestion systems are good but someone has to review them and in todays economy it is hard to find the payroll to do this.

Maybe Sears/Kmart has the Suggestion system back and up and running.

All of the suggestion that are given on this forum are because one wants to and  one does not expect to be rewarded.

I have to agree; in the past I've found that paying people to participate does not generate the best results.  Those who truly have an opinion and want to share it will without economic gain.

Rewards come in various ways...most people post because they like or need kmart but if the ideas are good and some even implemented...a contact or thank you other than on this board is not unwarranted and would foster more goodwill.

Isn't goodwill going out of business.... lol j/k.  Seriously there is a trend of big corporations spending time digging deep into the who, what, when, where, and why a good suggestion landed in there lap versus creating more.  The old saying goes, "If your in the hole quit digging."

Personally I think you are right.  The opinion of whether people offer their advice freely is still debatable.  But the point I'd like to see made is making inspiration more than an undertone.  Getting people here would be a small example.  If you aren't tapping the huge number of Sears/Kmart employees as a resource then inspire the 50% of americans that have computers and can get to this site.  The positive reinforcement everyone is looking for will come naturally from people that want to be here.  Meaning your small band of brothers (and sisters) won't have the lions share of work.... only the glory!  Inspire people to inspire others and before you know it someone will inspire you.

Hi MikeOldenfieldFan-

Welcome to MySears!  We do use the Simple Thanks program here on the site, but are in the process of adding some new features and making site changes to better serve the community.  The Simple Thanks program may change in the future-we are always open to any ideas on how to show appreciation to our loyal members.  If you have any recommendations, let us know!

In the meantime, we do have a fantastic contest going on right now-write as many reviews as you can and be eligible for FREE SHIPPING for an entire year from Sears-there are 25 winners a week!  Here is a link with more information:  http://blogs.mysears.com/2009/06/rules-for-the-promotion.html

We look forward to your feature contributions!

Hey Julie, did you know that the AskRob part of the Community section doesn't work anymore? It's all based on the sk-you.com site, and since that's been taken down, it no longer goes anywhere.

Nope-it should be back up and running in the next couple of days.  Thanks, again, BlueCrew, for letting us know!
