As a small child, I always wanted to go to Alaska...
We are waaay in the Interior where it's very dry/no humidity.
The snow falls late Sept./early Oct. and is here to stay until lateish April. There is no "bad" time of year. And small towns are family...cos "blood" relatives live out in the world & most everyone is from someplace else. There is no "grey area" to life here. One either loves it or hates it.
We moved here from WA state in 1982 and we have NO taxes in our area. We have a really nice grocery store right here and the best meats and produce in the Interior. Driving open road to Fairbanks to get Stocked-up on groceries is no big deal. After so many years, kinda know if the better buy is here at home and if in Fbx. - doesn't take that long to go up and back. I really don't know of anything at all that one can't get in Fbx., or even here in Delta???
Even my swimming pool came from here.
Pipeline Days are long gone and prices are pretty much same as out in the world 'cept restaurant food.
I get mail from family in MI w/in 3 days...
Got great sattelite TV reception and I'm writing on wireless connection internet.
It's dog race season now and won't be too long before it's light all nite.
I have moose that come show off their babies and a sow Grizzly will pass thru once in a great while in the spring.
Northern Lites dance from horizon to horizon all nite long, making spirals of color that shoot across into "draperies" bigger than ocean view. Even reflects into the house off the snow when the house lites are off.
The car is cozy and don't need much from than little stretchy gloves if no steering wheel cover. Just keep warm/safe gear along for "just in case". Certainly don't need it on indoors or in the car.
Every day is a new adventure...even a lovely fox who didn't see me thru the window this mornin' was hunting for a vole under a snoplowed embankment.
Summer can get pretty hot too. I do not like 90 degrees so glad those temps never last long.
gotta go alot further North (by plane) to get to polar bears. :-)
I could go on forever about Alaska but s'pose this is a close enuf summary for now. :-)
