I was laid of from my job of 13 years do to the current times, . I first felt sad, angry ,a  lone betrayed and totally screwed . Know I've managed to start coming out of the depression, I've doing volunteer work and  just keeping busy . Still looking for work. But there is very little out there for me . I have to be able to go at a moment's notice do to my son medical condition. So I 'm trying to see what kind of options I have .I was wondering if there are others out there that that feel the same?

Keep the Faith

Perhaps there are some temp agencys in your area.

The jobs may not last but for a week to several months but they normally pay a little bit more than the normal rate. They sometimes lead to fulltime job offers.

I have been where you are. Get you a plan together, apply for jobs and then go back and see the folks about the job. I would not go or call during their busy hours as they do not have time to talk to you then. Perhaps right after opening  or before it gets busy and they get covered up in their day to day task. I have folks call me at 12 or 1 and I am slammed with customers and do not have time to review their applications or talk to them. If they are tied up politley ask them if you can call them on another day or can they spare a few minutes to meet you.

I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. I'll bet there are a lot of people who understand what you're feeling even if they've found a new job quickly. Stay positive and keep looking, networking and learning about new things. What kind of work did/do you do?

As a bankruptcy attorney...I can tell you that unfortunately there are many, many people in a similar situation.   I too will keep your family in my prayers.

I know its frustrating, and I know right now it's just an awful time all around.  One of the things I recommend is that if for whatever reason you never attended or did not finish college this might be the perfect time to get your education and get into the field you always dreamed of.  A lot of financial aid and grant programs are out there to help you do just that.  It takes some planning, but it can be done.

There are even very good online programs out there nowadays if you have the discipline to study on your own.  Columbia College (ccis.edu) is one I recommend highly.
