LockedKmart try this!!

Start a viral campaign on the net for the new clothing lines like wicked and Piper & Blue, get kids excited by offering a wardrobe or outfit for free, randomly pick people to win.
Talk to some young stars that are known but not under contracts for clothes and such, it
works so well for other companies. The stars of Hanna Montana ( minus Miley ) Emily Osment perhaps,  90201 is making a comback. these young adults would be ripe and probably not under contract to promote clothes. Kmart can even supply clothing to certain shows.
Yup Viral marketing, teen - young adult stars also do a you tube campaign people can contribute why they like Kmarts clothes and can win .....clothes..showcase people via a direct Kmart you tube campaign wearing the new lines...this can also be done for Joe boxer, and route 66, shoes etc.....Viral campaigns are basically free, a tech way for old fashion word of mouth.

This isn't a bad idea, and I saw an ad which I thought was pretty good. But, the problem remains--kids still have to go into Kmart stores and buy the clothing. You can have edgy advertising, but it's all for not if the stores present the opposite image. Even if they just worked to make the clothing section presentable, it might work. I just read an article about a SH bright spot--Lands End, and their nice store-within-a-store concept in Sears. These investments can work! Branding Kmart as a place for cool clothing, and then having teens--a fickle group--come in and pick out their clothes with a decades old, yellowing tile floor below just isn't going to work IMO. I feel bad for Kmart's marketers, because they do a pretty good job, but the store experience just isn't conducive to fulfilling expectations.

I agree with both of you.  It is a great idea.  But in thinking on this subject, I don't really see many commercials for Kmart.  Nor do I EVER hear anything on the radio for them.  If it weren't for email and weekly circulars I would not see them at all (except when I just go to the store).  More advertising is definately a necessity. IMO

I am so looking forward to the changes that Kmart is going to make.  They have to make them.  I love this store and am excited to see its progress.

Granted they need to address the updating of the stores to get teens and young adults in. There is that nasty factor most teens/YA's would not look past. ALso Thats an idea whos time should come, stores with in stores like Lands end in sears, boutiqish
depts...brilliant ( especially with an open ilse concept).....IF there are contests for kids to win clothes like mentioned, then they can see the hot lines, have the tactile feel and closeness...they as they can be asked to spread the word, go viral or post of you tube (facebook etc) as well as Kmart corporate
doing you tube campaigns, not one but continuous. Supplying clothes to TV shows is also instant appeal becuase then a deal can be worked out for the some of the stars to be featured in kmart ads.

But yes, clean,crisp...thats part of the negative aura of Kmart people think the stores are nasty...fix that and the rest can all fall into place.

As far as the current Kmart you tube thats great.... there more that can be done
will little expense.

Again with teens instore a revamped K cafe will work wonders, teens drink coffee and like a sophisticated munch here and there...keeping them in the store longer

Take the floors down to concrete, stainless fixtures, anything to add a modern feel.  Speed up the registers.  Make the snack bar area feel a bit cozy.  Dare I say it knock off the coffee chains, because everyone is sick of paying over five bucks on a drink, but people have to feel the atmosphere.

You know, the radio suggestion is ideal. Radio is usually very cost effective (cheap) and has a degree of immediency. Most people listen to radio at some point during each day. Locally, we actually have on our talk station a Swap/Shop or Tradio show. These are local people that listen who are wanting to buy things. Sponsoring that type of show might up the ante against Wal-Mart. (IMHO)

OK. Radio yes, sponsorships on xm/sirus even better, get on hd radio. sponsor pod casts. Do more, lower costs!! even my kid sez why shoudl I get piper and blue when I get target stuff for less. Kmart needs so much change AND! it'ss even simpiler than
than they think......

AMEN! are you listening Kmart. All your money spent on commercials won;t produce a dime if your stores do not reflect the same.
