Hi tarpaperhaven! Welcome! I used to ride and loved it. It has been quite a while and I miss it a lot. I still love horses though and I know I always will.

Interesting that you don't have a TV! When I was growing up we had a TV but I was not allowed to watch except on rare occaisons. It turned me to books and other activities like riding!

hello. I am a mother of four, the oldest is 18, then 15 then the twins are 5 one boy one girl.  My daughter and I ride.  I used to travel the rodeo circuit but after getting pregnant with twins, I had a young 16 hand quarterhorse I could not get anyone to ride cuz he bucked and liked to run since he was a gamer, and so I had to sell him to a 4-h kid I had trained to ride.  I used to give lessons and was a 4-h leader. Training gamers and problem horses and reselling them to kids was my hobby.  I now own none but have two at my girlfriends house that minus well be mine.  I envy you right now.  We plan on moving to either Montana or Colorado and buying property so I can get into it again.

I am also new to the discussion board.  I am a teacher in a rural area and plan to retire next year.  Interesting discussion on TV.  I have worked with a lot of kids who watch a lot of television.  It is such a visual medium . I work a lot with comprehension skills in reading and social studies.  Listening skills are hard for kids with so much television and video games.

Hi Barcher55 and welcome! Interestingly, I was not allowed to watch any television as I grew up. Occassionally, I could watch a little on the weekends or a Patriots football game with my Dad but that was about it! I agree that the amount of TV watching should be kept at a minimum.

I grew up in a family of 6 kids.  We were allowed to watch 1 hour of tv a night and we had to agree on something without arguing or there was no Tv.  To this day I would rather read a book than watch TV.
