Tell the group how your life is, or is not, connected to the military.  Did you serve, are you serving, did your father serve, etc?

My dad was in the Army during the Vietnam War, and worked on the DC-9 aircraft design.

My brother-in-law is active duty in the Army. He's a medic, scheduled for his second deployment this fall. Three close friends are also active duty - two Marines and one Army.

Paternal grandfather served in Midway during world war two and maternal grandfather did 2 tours in Vietnam.  Mother and father are both retired Coast Guard and I was supposed to be the Army boy but was declined for eye sight 3 times! In my area roughly 30% of the population is military or retired and we send flyers to the VFW in our area during friends and family events!  Thanks to all who serve and have served!

I am a US Navy veteran of six years active duty.  I served between September 1990 through October 1996, with two years inactive service following.  My service was during the first Gulf War, although I was in training schools in Millington, TN during that time.  My specialty was aircraft electronics repair.

My first eight weeks in the Navy were spent at the Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL.  So you Hoffman folks know where that is!  I was stationed at Naval Air Station Agana, Guam from 1992 through 1994; and I served the rest of my time at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, WA.  My squadrons were VQ-5 and VQ-1, whose aircraft are involved in reconnaisance missions in very dangerous areas of the world.

When I came to work for Sears I was still on my final week of military leave.  Here's an interesting tidbit for you.  In 1998, I was taking a one-week TV class at what used to be known as Sears Technical Institute in Bannockburn, IL.  I stayed in the very same hotel that my family stayed in while they were visiting me at boot camp eight years earlier!  It was the Holiday Inn at Gurnee, IL.  How weird is that?!

Both of my grandfathers served during WWII in the European theater.

Hixonium, you have some connections to Sears going back.  That is great!  I had a good friend who was stationed in Guam right before your time.  He had some crazy stories.

My dad was in the reserves out of college, and my father-in-law proudly served many years ago post WW II.

I'll bet one of his crazy Guam stories involved living through a typhoon or two or three.  I went through several of them plus an 8.2 earthquake that lasted exactly one minute.

Had #14 in the 1972 draft lottery. The draft ended in February 1973 at #10, but not before my pre-induction physical in Syracuse NY... 1 A.

I salute you, sir, and may God bring your son back safely when the job is done.  Thank you--thanks to everyone here--for your service.
