This is one of those times where I'm going to be very critical of Sears, so hold on!

I'm very frustrated with Sears.com.  It seems that everyday I go to the site something has changed -- and rarely for the better.   Icons that don't show up, script errors and a site that looks like someone forgot that Internet Explorer was the "Default" web browser for most folks.  It's been a struggle, but I kept gritting my teeth and thinking "ok, they are working on it -- they know about this."

Well this morning I login and see the site has changed again.  I start searching for chainsaws -- I type in "Craftsman chainsaw" the exact same thing I typed in last week.  This time I get back next to nothing.  I start browsing, and nada -- I narrow things down and it just gets worse.  Finally out of desperation I type in "chain saw" and whala -- there they are!  So why did "chainsaw" work last week and this week I have to use "chain saw".

So now that I found what I wanted, I notice that the little layaway icons are gone.  Strange, last week I placed it on layaway just fine.  Why is it this week its gone?  I start looking all over Sears.com and I can't find one mention of the word layaway anywhere.  It's just gone.

Now let's step back and think about this.  Commercials are airing left and right for layaway, and yet it's nowhere to be found.  I'm pretty used to the quirks of the Sears.com site, but imagine a casual shopper trying to shop here -- they would probably run out of the room screaming.

I'm not being mean here, because I'd love to see both Sears and Kmart come out of this holiday season going GREAT -- but come on folks.  Is anyone doing usability testing on the website?  Is there any type of quality assurance being done?  I've worked with automated QA tools for the past ten years and what I am seeing even a novice QA person should be picking up on.

I sure hope someone is listening and sharing these concerns.  As for me, I've given up trying to buy that chainsaw.  Maybe I'll try back later, but at this point I'm exhausted just trying to figure the site out!

What browser are you using? On a similar note the forums where actually really bad for awhile when they were updating...but now mysears is noticeably better than before...so maybe just give it a week?

The problem is products are not consistently and logically tagged. For instance, a chainsaw should be tagged "chainsaw" and "chain saw." However, some are tagged one way, some the other, and some both. Believe me, I've spent years yelling into the hurricane about this, and I'm not sure when/if any substantial improvements will come. Naturally, such a thing won't be announced, and it will only be through consistent successful navigations and searches that any improvement will be detected. We'll see, though.

They really need to get on the ball here and get some serious QA and usability testing going.  I mean it makes no sense whatsoever to be advertising online layaway on television and then have an average user come to the site and not be able to find it anywhere.

I feel your pain rstinnett. Things have been changing and I like you am waiting for them to work the "kinks" out. The websites remind me of new microsoft software that you shouldn't buy immediately because they haven't worked out all the issues with the programming. I tried using my laptop at home which is updated and I have the same issues I do while at work.

Please IT can we fix these glitches?

I ran into a problem with the beta site last night.

Sometimes it pops up, sometimes the old site does.

I do a search, and tell a customer a gas range is $495.99.

Click on the range, and the price is $526.99.

I'll keep throwing help tickets into gale force winds, and if it doesn't get better, have you ever heard of these things called "dinosaurs"?

Well layaway started to work again sometime this evening.  I managed to FINALLY get a layaway contract started after trying for about 48 hours.  Good grief.

We struggle daily with the site.  It is soooo slow for us and I still haven't gotten used to the navigation.  We also get tons of complaints about the site.  Ugh!  I loved it when I went to click on some small appliance and underwear came up instead.

well I just looked at our IT guys website earlier and it seems that they are moving in the right direction on paper anyway. We will have to keep pushing on everyday because their seem to be server issues, equipment issues, and data entry issues that we must contend with.

Your average store's server is sorely dated.

Though we have Optimum Online, and it has the capability to download data on the Optimum network at 1.5 GB/s should the opposing server be capable, if your store network server can't put up decent bandwith, it doesn't matter how good your kiosk is.

Plus, by comparison, the sears.com site loads slowly to boot compared to most other sites.
