Did she mention all Kenmore & Kenmore elite appliances are 20% off? Plus you get the additional 10% off VIP savings! She should have!

Woohoo! Those are pretty good deals - you're right I should have mentioned those too!

Those sound like GREAT deals! I am always looking for sales and discount opportunities.

The Kenmore deal is probably the best of the bunch. I've bought a few appliances at Sears, and I've never seen the discount exceed 20%. So, if you're thinking about getting an appliance, you probably won't beat that. At 20% off, I didn't find any better deals among the competing chains, so with an additional 10% off, you're really getting a deal.

Plus 20% off an appliance can end up being a big chunk of money! I wish I had a washing machine in my apartment!

Thanks for telling us about the sale. I need a new fridge in the worst way. With this economy, good sales are def on my radar.

NOT such a great deal when the discount isn't applied at the time of sale and you are shooed away when you return, told the purchase had to be made after 6pm.  I had the VIP coupon from the email and spent just under $400.  I'm unhappy and feel taken advantage of.  I may simply return the items but upset that I wasted my time shopping at Sears.

itsmarisa, sorry to hear that happened...did they tell you before you paid that it had to be after 6PM?

rstinnett, did you make it over there to get anything?   I purchased 4 appliances for the kitchen (fridge, oven, dishwasher & microwave) and becuase they were Kenmore Elite there was a 20% + 10% +10% (associates') discount.  What I thought would have cost us around 7K ended up being $4500.   Walked in a 8:15 on a Sunday night and was home by nine.   Got the recorded call 15 minutes after I got home confirming delivery.  So far a great transaction!

Yes, we went to the Columbia, MO Sears and got there almost exactly at 6PM.  They had a drawing for giveaways going on, popcorn, cookies and drinks.  The smell of popcorn was very luring!  Since it was after 6PM the mall was closed, so you had to come in the side doors -- I would think in future a banner or sign indicating this might help people.

The appliance department was swamped.  In the 20 minutes it took us to pick out a refrigerator Miles (the guy working in the frig/freezer section -- been there for years!) had already rung up 5 other transactions.

He did a great job of explaining that it was SCHEDULED to arrive on Wednesday but because they had so much merchandise scheduled to arrive on Wednesday that we should call and confirm before driving over.  NIce touch!

There were people all throughout the store -- clothing was popular, appliances were popular and so were grills.  Tools seemed a bit slow -- which surprised me.

We finished up our transaction around 6:45 and then chatted with some employees working the doors before we left around 7.

Overall, a good experience.  I will say that one topic that came up during out chatting with the employees was the Thanksgiving washer/dryer fiasco.  They said they finally got their LAST shipment from that in this week and it has been a nightmare dealing with irate customers.  This situation should have been handled better and its clear that a lot of people (note:  I did not participate in this, just heard about it) are upset.

For those curious, we purchased a Kenmore fridge for our "basement" kitchen (not the main kitchen).  We even opted to splurge and bought the icemaker and 5YR MPA.  :-)  This is replacing a Sears fridge from the early 1970s that finally gave up the ghost last month!

I had a very similar experience in that the sales associates were talking about the Thanksgiving washer/dryer issue.   I also went to a Sears in a mall (Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg) and I was surprised that when you went to the side doors near the appliance and tools area not only was there no banner but the darn lot and doorway were dark!   My first thought when I got there was that people would just drive on out.  I too purchased the 5yr MPA.   We're not taking delivery til April 11th cause the dishwasher wasn't readily available and I prefer to have all four items delivered and installed the same day.    I'll keep you posted.

Cudos to sales associate Rudy Velez who did a stellar job all across the board that night.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience.  It probably should have been made more clear that the VIP discount was only between 6 pm and 9 pm.  I know how you feel, because I have had simialr experiences at other stores and it is frustrating and makes you feel like you were taken advantage of.

I am a Sears employee and I assure you that we would never intentionally mislead you.  I hope that the next time we have another one of these events that you don't have a similar experience.

If you click on the graphic by my name, it will expand the discount coupon I received in an email.  I presented the coupon at the time of purchase and was not aware that the discount wasn't applied until after I arrived home.  When I returned to the store (after 6pm on the sale date, mind you), I was told I would not be able to receive the discount because the sale started after 6pm - regardless of what the coupon said.  I will attempt to contact customer service as suggested and if I don't receive an answer, I'll simply file a complaint with the federal trade commission (FTC).  I have documentation.  I've always had positive experiences with Sears, so this experience surprised (and soured) me.

This is really bizarre in that the coupon clearly states "Before 5 PM". My guess is that the coupon was from a region where stores can't stay open late Sundays, maybe across your state line. Nevertheless, an authentic coupon should have been honored in any Sears store.
