In the area I live in, it's usually easier shopping at Kmart than shopping at the local Walmart. You have to go across the bridge to Columbus to get to larger stores and malls. Of the two major stores in Phenix City, you only have Walmart and Kmart to choose between. There are a few smaller stores, like Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Freds.
I HATE, HATE, HATE going to Walmart. It is ALWAYS packed, unless you go at two in the morning, ALWAYS understaffed, and a mess. But, the problem I encounter with Kmart is they don't have a lot of the things you need and can only get at Walmart and if you do find it the prices are much higher too!
Also, the products Kmart offers are slipping. Last year I purchased a brand new Kenmore Air conditioner. I purchased the extended warranty. Within one year, with normal use (the air conditioner still LOOKED brand new) it totally quit working. (I bought it May 2008, it quit working July 2009) So, I called in the warranty information number for the warranty that I paid an extra 20.00 dollars for at the register that was supposed to cover everything (according to the cashier who sold it to me) and the gentleman on the phone told me that the warranty ran concurrent with the manufacturers warranty, and that the air conditioner was not covered!! I am out over 200.00. I thought this can't be right, what's the point of buying a warranty that runs the same as the manufacturers warranty, so I called in again, and was switched from person to person to person. When I finally got through to someone, the line magically "disconnected"! So, I had to purchase another air conditioner anyway. I could not even get them to send me the parts for the air conditioner (which should have been under warranty, for total repair in my home) so that I could fix it myself! Therefore, I won't be buying anymore appliances from KMart. I went online and there were SO MANY blogs identical to this, I know that I am not alone. It is hurting Kmart the way they are conducting business, and they don't seem to care!
